Resha was having a bad day. It was exactly two months since her mother died, a month since the cubs were born, and she was feeling the pressure. Having been a stubborn youngster she'd always refused the lessons in pride management her parents had offered her for she had never wished to take the position of queen andnow, now she regretted it.
The cream-coloured female slunk through the grasslands with her head hung, yellow eyes gleaming with a sadness she rarely let show. As it was night every sound which was quiet in the day seemed three times louder and on several occasions passing creatures had already made her jump. It was embarrasing, really, but she carried on anyway.
Sometimes it is easier to just forget everything. So many times she had heard her mother say it after her father's death. So many times she had frowned at her mother and shook her head. Now she understood how her mother had felt. Leading alone was a heavy burden, especially when cubs were involved.
She thought of her sons and of Melody, the female cub she knew her sons was so fond of and hoped they were ok, hoped that Zeza was caring for them. She'd just needed to get away. She needed time to think.
Resha stopped, turning her head skyward and looking to the stars. The home of all the past kings and queen, but only the best shining up there. She wandered if her parents were looking down on her, if they were proud or disapproving of how she was handling things. Perhaps she needed to find a king? Perhaps she needed to find strong males to protect the pride. Capricorn, her dear uncle Capricorn, was too old to do so now.
She sighed. So much to do. Sometimes it was better to just forget, if only for a minute.
